Shiki was part of the exhibit “Kizuna: Connecting Through Generations”, presented by the Japanese Canadian Heritage Museum in Burnaby, BC, Canada in 2010. The word “shiki” is Japanese for “four seasons”, and these paintings are reflections on the seasons, inspired by photographs by my grandfather, Rintaro Hayashi, as well as photos from the museum archives. The four paintings were accompanied by an original electroacoustic installation by the Vancouver composer Yota Kobayashi. To hear Kobayashi’s stunning piece, click here.
